Weddings

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. I am honored to officiate on such blessed occasions.

The ceremonies I perform don't need to be in a church but they are Christian services.   By this I mean that there will be a Bible reading, prayers and blessings for the couple and the Lord's Prayer ("Our Father").

We welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in our community and believe in marriage equality.

At weddings, I do not assume that everyone in attendance is Christian or that the couple are both Christians.  I do not speak of Christianity in terms of the only or highest truth.   I certainly do not speak of Christians as better people.  My faith is not about how well behaved people are or how overtly religious they are.  That's nonsense.  My faith is about God, God's goodness, God's faithfulness, God's forgiveness and God's compassion.   In the Cross I see God's care for the world, especially in its suffering.  We are to trust in God's love for us and be shaped by that love.

Beyond these elements you can tell me what else you see for your wedding day: An interfaith ceremony; cultural, ethnic traditions; music, poetry, dance. We can discuss what makes this wedding your own.

For non-members my fee is $300.  We can discuss if this is a hardship.   If the ceremony is in the church or if you need me to plan music we would discuss those arrangements.

Our church denomination (ELCA) welcomes and fully affirms members of the LGBT community and our congregation has a statement of welcome.  (What does the Bible say about Homosexuality?)
